Afternoon Delight #11: Skober – Step Outside EP

skoberIf you’re anything like us, you need more than a little pick-me-up to get through the afternoon. More effective than a double shot of espresso, a one-two punch of techno is sure to do the trick. Enter the forthcoming Step Outside EP by Ukranian producer Skober.

Skober has made quite a name for himself in the techno scene with a 6-year discography which includes releases on some of our favorite labels such as Drumcode, Phobiq, and Analytictrail. This one comes to us via Poland’s promising Secret Room Records. The original mix is a rollicking cut which plays with layers, polyrhythms, and melodies throughout its 7 minute duration. It’s a high-energy, deep yet raw track from start to finish, perfect for an inspiring headphone listen during the day or total dancefloor annihilation at night.

For round two, Secret Room’s head DEAS takes the reigns and offers up a funkier, melodic version of “Step Outside” which does a fantastic job of reminding us that all techno doesn’t have to be pounding. A sneaky synth bass leads the way through groovy drum patterns, distorted vocals, and several climactic moments. We’d play it alongside some Cari Lekebusch or Sam Paganini.

Both tracks are a great way to spice up your afternoon and beg for use of the repeat button. Preview the release for yourself below and grab a copy of Step Outside for yourself on August 25th!
