Experience Charivari Detroit 2014
“Charivari, also called rough music, is a loud public ritual with history dating back to the Middle Ages. Join us as we bring it to the modern age and take it louder.” -Charivari Press Release
From August 2-3, thousands of dance music devotees will flood downtown Detroit for the debut of Charivari Music Festival. Taking place at Milliken State Park and Harbor, Charivari is a FREE event celebrating electronic music and Detroit’s vital role in its development. From old school legends to stars on the rise, the lineup demonstrates the diverse landscape of Detroit’s dance music scene. Expecting over 10,000 attendees over the weekend, Charivari will feature two stages with DJs performing from 10A.M.-10P.M. Highlights include veteran DJs such as Delano Smith, Terrence Parker, and Eddie Fowlkes, and a new wave of talent like 11-year-old spinster DJ Young1, Golf Clap, Kyle Hall, and many more.
Charivari ends early because of event regulations at the state park, but there are official afterparties that will be worth every penny. Introducing their line of “Fallout Parties” taking place at TV Bar on Saturday night and The Works on Sunday night, Charivari is offering a limited pre-sale that will get you into both parties. For $25 (this price will be bumped up to $30 after tier 1 sells out) one receives a blue wristband and access to both fallout parties. Tickets for each party are $20 so if you know you’re going to both, save yourself $15 and buy a wristband here.
To learn more about the organization and to get you even more excited for this event, the Charivari team has put together a “Spin Cycle” YouTube channel featuring plugs from DJs playing the event. Learn how Stacey Hotwaxx Hale got into dance music, or how Jeffrey the Don Woodward will be tearing it up with his vinyl-only set. Check out Moodymann’s spin cycle plug below!
