Extended Play Fridays #8
Look no further than this banging two-track EP to instantly transport you to a tropical mindset, even in the midst of winter. Amnesia Ibiza resident Mar-T returns to his own Wow! imprint with “Punker” a peak-time house track infused with plenty of island flavor. Led by its bouncing bassline, choppy vocal samples, and expertly interspersed percussion, it will make you want to stop what you’re doing and buy a one-way ticket to the white isle. On remix duties is the always-captivating Spaniard Danny Serrano, who puts his signature dark tech-house stamp on the track. The beefy bass will have entire dance floors shaking in no time.
We don’t know what they’re putting in the water in Switzerland these days, but whatever it is makes for some lovely new production talent, such as this duo Low.Tales. As the name implies, these tracks tell stories. Kicking things off is title track “High Durbation,” which Beatport somehow filed under “Indie Dance” – but in reality it’s one hell of a take on deep-tech-house (maybe the fact that the track is actually unique overloaded their system!). The synths, vocals, effects, and bass parts are all lush and draw the listener in immediately. It’s fun and funky yet still intellectual. Up next, another Swiss duo, Parkcity, put their spin on “High Durbation,” and this is one to save for those wee hours of the morning right before the sun comes up. Closing out the EP is original “Down Down,” a melodic soundscape which has a nice balance of chill and high-energy sounds.

Making their Slur Records debut, talented duo Terreyl Kirton and Neil Kurlander, better known as Soul Mob, present a sexy and dark tech house song in “Birthday Gift.” The sensual vocals set the tone, “You make me feel free and you make me fall hard,” as the penetrating bass line chugs along with a force that could bring the finest crowd of techno purveyors to its knees.
