Music Mondays: Groove Armada Release Pork Soda EP

3 headsGroove Armada may be having the best February out of anyone, as they recently re-released a 15th anniversary edition of their classic debut album “Northern Star” and have a new EP out on Jaymo & Andy George’s popular dance imprint Moda Black. Pork Soda EP, released last week, consists of three meaty tracks that embody the spirit of a warehouse party.

Title track “Pork Soda” sets the pace for the rest of the EP, with a gritty house vibe characterized by an analog-driven bassline, restrained sirens, and a crescendo of emotive synths that send the listener into a rhythmic frenzy.

Next up is “Hyde & Freak,” a hybrid dance track that begins with a chunky electro bassline that bounces along, crispy hi-hats, and a soulful groove that enters at the halfway mark. Evolving to include sax licks and soul-laden vocals, the song transforms into an electro-Chicago house fusion that will be used by many DJs in the coming months.

The EP is rounded out nicely with “Jack in Black” which starts off in a similar fashion to “Pork Soda,” but evolves into a more light-hearted tone. Its infused with disco-inspired rhythms that tip a cap to the energetic live Groove Aramada sets of the past.

The infectious and eclectic productions on Pork Soda EP are proof that not only does this quintessential dance duo still got it, but they’re at the top of their game.
