Staff Picks: Top 5 After Parties of Movement Weekend

Freaklimate

Sunday May 26, 10pm – 7am | The Salon, 6705 W Lafeyette St | $35+ on RA

Detroit’s Freakish Pleasures and New York City’s Sublimate promotors are teaming up to unleash a mix of electro, techno, house and disco onto a space only Detroit can deliver. The Salon resides in South-West Detroit and will be absolutely transformed into the Freaklimate vision. Aux 88 are truly electro pioneers known for their booty-shakin’ live sets since 1985. Hieroglyphic Being has been on fire lately putting out a stellar LP last year (along with innumerable web releases) and a killer EP already this year. He threw down at the works last year in one of the venue’s final events. Intergalactic Gary will add a raw edge and the rest of the of the lineup. Be sure to check out Mozhgan (CA), RAMZi (Canada), Mark Grusane (Berlin) and Turtle Bugg as he teams up with Chung from NYC. We’re looking forward to hearing SubBass flex their system. See ya at the Salon for the marathon 10PM-7AM adventure.

Where Are My Keys?

Monday May 27, 7am – 4am (Tues)|Marble Bar, 1501 Holden St|$50+ on RA

This party holds a special place in the Robotic Peacock crew’s heart for many reasons. The collaboration between one of Detroit and Miami’s best dance music venues represents our start in Miami and home in Detroit. It was the unofficial replacement of Need I Say More  beginning last year (that 7 AM start time was the perfect nod.) Featuring one of the cleanest sound systems in Detroit, you’ll hear every little detail of the tracks played by Magic Mountain High (Move D and Juju & Jordash) and The Mulholland Free Clinic (Gai Aner, Jordan Czamanski, David Moufang and Jonah Sharp from Germany—think Berlin’s version of Detroit’s 3 Chairs.) Tama Sumo is sure to please on her only Detroit show of the weekend, not to mention the modern-day master of funk, Dam Funk. Detroit legends of new an old are featured with sets by Fundamentals (Kyle Hall & Jay Daniel), a surely soulful groove journey from Norm Talley b2b Scott Grooves (& friends!) The funky grooves will continue to flow from Miami favorites like Will Renaurt and Bamboozle. NYC’s Mister Saturday Night duo will surely bring the vibes along with legends like Mysic Bill. The whole lineup truly justifies the 21 hours of your Movement weekend if you’ve got what it takes.

OK Cool

With headliners like Derrick Carter, Jus-Ed, Eddie C, Ardalan the patio will be on fire. The Detroit connections just keep coming with Delano Smith, Loren, ADMN, and of course Mister Joshooa. Also check out some out of town flavor from Atnarko (Orlando), Automaticamore (Toronto), Tara Brooks (LA), and Jeremy Ismael (Miami). There are sure to be last minute additions so do your best to ride this one out until Monday afternoon!
