It’s hard to believe, but Movement Festival is next weekend!! When the techno stops at Hart Plaza, the city comes alive thanks to a slew of unique afterparties in the city’s most iconic venues. This year’s list of parties is a force to be reckoned with, so we hand-picked 10 of our must-sees for you. Here are the selections by Jess, Aleah, Phil & Natasha. See you on the floor!


RBMA Soul Clap’s House of eFunk

Get your groove on all night and all morning at Soul Clap’s House of Efunk! Hosted by Crew Love, Paxahau and Red Bull Music Academy, these guys have a killer track record for throwing one heck of a party. The evening will consist of Soul Clap, of course, joined by No Regular Play, Amp Fiddler with a live performance… And so many more. Get your tickets quickly because this one sells out super fast!

One of Detroit’s finest exports, Carl Craig, is ready to take you on another a journey in sound inspired by its backdrop – Detroit Love. Making the party extra special is the B2B2B set by three of electronic music’s finest: Seth Troxler, Dubfire, and of course Craig himself. Keith Kemp will also be on hand to get your body moving. Check it out after dancing the day away at the Detroit Love takeover of the Thump stage at Movement, featuring Paul Woolford, Matthew Dear, and many more.

Techno titan Sian is back in Detroit for his 2nd annual Octopus Recordings showcase. Find yourself lost in the music until the wee hours of the morning due to a stellar soundtrack also provided by Julian Jeweil, Jay Lumen (both of which are only appearing here next weekend!), Weska, and Juheun. The bass-friendly Bleu is the perfect spot for this dark endeavor. Open your mind and move your body to the “classic modern techno” sounds only Octopus can deliver.

The woman-owned collective Discwoman returns to Movement in Detroit this year with a force of women-identified talent including: Aurora Halal  (Mutual Dreaming/Sustain Release), who’s making her Detroit debut, Godmother of House Music Stacey Hotwaxx Hale (Detroit),  Discwoman’s own UMFANG (1080p) and Volvox (Jack Dept) alongside locals ABBY (Detroit/NYC) and Molly Soda (Detroit). The evening starts with an array of electronic sounds and genres, then will transform into a thunderous techno cave accompanied by artist Rachel Roze’s projections. A percentage of proceeds will benefit Detroit non-profit Teen Hype which works to empower underprivileged youth.

Cosmic Disco

With a blend of hometown heroes (Daniel Bell, Andres, Ryan Dahl, Loren) and fan favorites (Kenny Glasgow, Doc Martin, Gene Farris), Cosmic Disco is bound to be a night full of incredible house and techno. Produced by Chuck Daniels’ Sampled Detroit Recordings, Cosmic Disco takes place at the recently opened Marble Bar, a local hotspot for dope vibes and Detroit’s sexiest dance music.

RBMA Last Night a DJ Saved My Soul

Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) – 4454 Woodward Ave, Detroit
MOCAD’s Cafe 78 groundbreaking Sunday brunch event takes on new life during Movement weekend. “Last Night a DJ Saved My Soul” brings together artists saving souls on and off the dancefloor through a unique synthesis of transcendent music and transportive messages. Per the website, attendees can expect soulful sets by Underground Resistance cohort Mark Flash, New Detroit activist Monty Luke, and Motor City house pioneer Terrence Parker. Rounding out the lineup are Planet E affiliated vocalist Merachka, and funky Detroit native DJ MoReese. The event will also feature local popup vendor, Brightly Twisted, the brainchild of born-and-bred Michigan artists offering a curated mix of contemporary women’s clothing, accessories, and home décor.

Detroit locals know not to miss OK Cool parties at TV Lounge. Movement weekend amplifies things a bit with a 13-hour after party featuring Detroit’s own Seth Troxler, Rick Wade, Ataxia, Jeremy Kypta, Mr. Joshooa, and Loren. Craig Richards will bring a London/Fabric vibe to the iconic “Detroit” venue. The Black Madonna is gonna throw down, you just never know what! Heartthrob’s live set is not to be missed. Mood II Swing, Eddie C, Dax Lee, Atnarko, and Ohashi round out the lineup to bring one stacked party… Get tickets in advance.

There’s no place better than Detroit to spend your evening (and morning) than a showcase of some of electronic music’s heaviest hitters. A wealth of international talent will be exhibited here, from the UK’s Perc to NYC’s Adam X to Germany’s Headless Horseman to Texas’s Andrei Morant, and many more. Prepare to get techno’ed proper in one of Detroit’s favorite venues. Boom.

This two-floor party is sure to be a top-notch afters. Art Department’s No. 19 music is bringing their A-team from Toronto, headed up by Kenny Glasglow and Jonny White. Detroit’s own Visionquest will bring the heat with Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtiss. Rounding out the lineup Magda, Nitin, and DJ Three will provide the beats until the sunrise. Don’t sleep on this late-night soundtrack!

End your weekend drenched in earth shaking techno at Trip 2 Detroit! Terrence Dixon and Luke Hess, two Detroit techno artists, will be accompanied by Nina Kraviz, the buzzed-about Bjarki, and more will be on the decks throughout the evening, making your last night more than memorable. There’s no better way to leave a weekend in the birthplace of techno!
