Top 3 Acts to Check out at OK COOL
Every year OK Cool is touted as one of the best after parties during Movement weekend. Boasting an eclectic array of international heavy hitters and Detroit’s local rockstars, the party will take place on Sunday, May 27 at the beloved venue TV Lounge. Grab tickets here
Disclaimer: This event will be top notch with soundsystems from VOID and all DJ’s bringing their A-game for the 6th Annual OK Cool! party. The whole lineup is bonkers.
Eddie C
If you’re not dancing at an Eddie C set, you must be dead. This cat tore down the house at the TV Lounge’s NYE party, bringing in 2018 with some funky disco vibes. Since then, the Ontario native who currently resides in Berlin, has been bouncing around the west coast, Montreal, Germany, the Netherlands and UK. He even played one of our favourite venues, Eighteenth Street Lounge in DC, last weekend. His slower brand of funky deep house with a heavy disco vibe is sure to offer a really nice contrast to some of the heavy hitters from dirtybird (Eats Everything, Ardalan), while keeping the booty shaking basslines flowing across the dance floor. He has hot new 7″ funky disco cuts on his label, Red Motorbike. Catch him in the states before he’s back in Berlin!
Cosmin TRG
When that dark, scary techno sound is needed, Cosmin TRG brings it while keeping bodies moving. His spin on techno is accessible and manages to use very abstract sound pallets and rhythms. The RP crew is hoping to see that Cass Tech sign next to TV shake under his selection of tracks. You can bet we’ll hear some heat from labels such as 50 weapons and his excellent new label out of Berlin, Sportiv. Shout out to my BaBy and Dax Presents for bringing that German brand of dance-able techno to the motor city.
Delano Smith
Delano feels like the perfect Detroit selector to tie the dirtybird sound to the darker vibes of Cosmin TRG or Ralph Lawson. His signature beatdown sound captures a nice grooving deep house vibe with brain-massaging synth lines for a hypnotic, but accessible dance party. When he gets going in his hometown, as he did at last year’s Charivari (or the year before – http://roboticpeacock.com/pa
Honorable mention:
Taimur Agha – Blk|market Membership records boss and renowned DJ, from Brooklyn. Should be an outstanding deep house set with some abstract tracks gliding over moving basslines. Check out his label for some grade-A new releases!
